UST, NU rip foes to stay on top in UAAP beach volleyball

MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and National University Lady Bulldogs made a quick work of their foes to stay unbeaten in the UAAP Season 81 beach volleyball at Sands SM by the Bay in Pasay City.

Defending champions Golden Tigresses – Cherry Rondina and Babylove Barbon – were at their usual best as they scored 21-4, 21-7 against University of the East Lady Warriors’ Lyen Shan Ritual and Donna Nebrea on Friday.

Iyong bata, willing manalo at sobrang competitive,” the graduating Rondina said of Barbon. “Malalakas man o mahina ang kalaban namin, lalaban kami. Ako I want to end my UAAP career with a title.”

Meanwhile the rookie pair of Klymince Orilleneda and Antonnete Landicho of the Lady Bulldogs continued to stun their foes as they beat Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws’ Ivana Agudo and Marianne Calinawan 21-11, 21-15.

In other games, De La Salle University Lady Spikers’ Ernestine Tiamzon and Michelle Morente seized solo third place with a 21-14, 25-23 win over Ateneo Lady Eagles’ Pauline Gaston and Julia Samonte.

University of the Philippines Lady Maroons’ Isa Molde and Justine Dorog rallied from a set down to outlast Hannah Nicole Infante and Gracelchen Ave of Adamson University Lady Falcons 19-21, 21-13, 15-12.

The Lady Spikers (3-1) are now on third place while the Lady Maroons (2-2) are on fourth place.  The Lady Eagles, the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Falcons fell in a three-way tie for the fifth spot (1-3)./PN
