BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed – one of them a minor – after a truck carrying bamboo poles fell on its side while navigating the road in Barangay Tabao Rizal, San Enrique, Negros Occidental.
Municipal police head Chief Inspector Rey Molas identified the fatalities as the 60-year-old Porfino Taborda of La Castellana, Negros Occidental and 16-year-old Joseph Andamo of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.
Taborda and Andamo died of injuries they got from the bamboo poles, police said.
The truck they were riding was bound for Valladolid, Negros Occidental to deliver the poles.
According to initial investigation, the 45-year-old truck driver Elejandro Gale of La Castellana lost control of the vehicle while navigating Rizal Street around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Running on the opposite side of the lane at the time was another truck driven by the 40-year-old Murcia, Negros Occidental resident Reynold Atienza.
The truck that Gale was driving occupied the other side of the lane, causing Atienza’s truck to hit it.
Atienza’s truck then fell to a canal along the road.
