BORACAY – Trash collected here will be transported out of the island every day to avoid “stockpiling” when it reopens later this month, an official from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said Wednesday.
From the time this famed beach destination reopens for a dry run on Oct. 15, all collected residual waste will be “taken out at the end of the day,” said DENR Undersecretary Sherwin Rigor.
These will be collected in a designated drop-off point and will be brought to Sambiray port, which is about 5 kilometers from Caticlan port, Rigor added.
Boracay was closed off to tourists since April 26 to give way to its rehabilitation after President Rodrigo Duterte called it a “cesspool.”
It is set for a full reopening on Oct. 26 with a fresh set of guidelines, including the prohibition of alcohol and wild parties along its beaches. (With ABS-CBN News/PN)
