ILOILO – A team from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 6 has been sent to help in the retrieval operations in a landslide site in Naga City in Cebu province.
But the regional office was planning to pull them out on Saturday.
The 15 personnel were from the BFP-6’s Special Rescue Unit, according to Assistant Regional Director for Operations Crosbee Gumowang.
They will be recalled from Cebu as the regional office prepares for the scheduled reopening of Boracay on Oct. 26, Gumowang said.
He said they will write Senior Superintendent Samuel Tadeo, BFP-7 (Central Visayas) director, to inform him about the plan.
“We need to practice for the capability demo that we will be conducting on reopening day (in Boracay),” said Gumowang.
The BFP-6 personnel were deployed to Barangay Tina-an, Naga City on Sept. 23.
The bureau’s national headquarters ordered regional offices to augment retrieval operations there.
Other regional teams sent there were from the BFP-8 (Eastern Visayas) and BFP-10 (Northern Mindanao), Gumowang said.
Inspector Arden Bedoña headed the team from the BFP-6.
At the landslide site, Fire bureau personnel work 24 hours and are given a 24-hour rest, Gumowang said. (PNA)
