MANILA – San Beda University Red Lions cruised to its eighth straight win in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball following a 77-55 win over College of St. Benilde Blazers at the San Juan Arena.

Robert Bolick led the way with 19 points and four assists on Thursday night while Jayvee Mocon and Donald Tankoua chipped in with 13 markers apiece.

The victory allowed the defending champions Red Lions to force a deadlock at the top of the standings at 14-1 with Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates, which came from a 92-76 win over Mapua University Cardinals.

“We had doubts entering this game because Benilde had their backs against the wall,” said Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez. “But we needed this win as well to solidify our spot in the top two. I think we secured a playoff berth for the twice-to-beat.”

Clement Leutcheu was the lone double-digit scorer for the Blazers with 12 markers.

It was also the Blazers’ fourth defeat in its last six matches to slide down to 8-7 win-loss slate.

In the first game, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas continued its dominance of San Sebastian College Stags. It eked out a come-from-behind 85-77 victory in overtime.

The Altas clawed back from five points down with a minute to go in fourth quarter to force an OT and then dominated the Stags in extra time to book their fifth win in row and 10th overall in 15 outings.

Prince Eze continued to make a case for the MVP plum as he played all 45 minutes and powered his way to game-highs 25 points, 23 rebounds and four blocks for the Altas./PN
