Valdez drops 20, Creamline sweeps Tacloban in V League

MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers vented its ire on the Tacloban Fighting Warays with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 straight set win in the PVL Open Conference at the San Juan Arena.

Veteran Alyssa Valdez delivered the goods with 20 points, including 15 attacks, to go along with eight digs and 12 excellent receptions.

The Cool Smashers improved to 1-1.

It eked out the straight set triumph despite missing a number of key players in libero Melissa Gohing (throat infection), Rose Vargas (achilles tear) and Pauline Soriano (hand).

Against the Fighting Warays, the Cool Smashers were still not as pristine as their championship run in the Reinforced Conference as it had to battle back from early deficits in the second and third sets to pull off the win.

“It was disappointing talaga for us kasi we’ve been training hard for so long din, kahit may injuries pa kami,” said Valdez. “We wanted to work on the things we lacked talaga. We’re happy with how we played (against Tacloban) and we hope we can continue.”

Heather Guino-o and Jovie Prado finished with seven points apiece to lead the way for the Fighting Warays, which dropped to 2-2 win-loss card.

In the other match, Pocari Sweat-Air Force Lady Warriors relied on its blocking as it fended off Adamson-Akari Lady Falcons, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16, to register its third victory in four matches.

Myla Pablo led the way with 13 points, while Iumi Yongco added 12 markers for the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Falcons (0-2) were bannered by Chiara Permentilla and Trisha Genesis, who had 12 points each./PN
