ILOILO – Cong. Arcadio Gorriceta of the 2nd District is not seeking reelection. Son Michael, mayor of the municipality of Pavia, is running for the post he is vacating.
The young Gorriceta confirmed yesterday he and his father agreed on this setup for the 2019 midterm elections.
The two-term Congressman Gorriceta is still eligible for a third consecutive term but has opted to rest from politics for his complete recovery following a health scare.
According to Mayor Gorriceta, he would be glad to continue the programs and projects of his father such as developing Bucari, Leon into a tourist destination, giving medical and burial assistance to the poor, livelihood assistance, building infrastructures such as roads and public schools in the 2nd District.
“Gusto ‘ya gid tani magsige ugaling may mga okasyon nga kinahanglan ang presensya niya, ti, absent sia kis-a. Huya man sia sa mga mayors,” said Mayor Gorriceta who has one more term left as Pavia’s chief executive.
So who will run for mayor in Pavia? Mayor Gorriceta said Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Luigi Gorriceta will, under his camp with the Nacionalista Party.
Their group’s bet for vice mayor is SB member Edsel Gerochi.
Mayor Gorriceta also said his lineup for mayor in eight 2nd District towns is complete. They are the following:
* Alimodian – Mayor Geefree Alonsabe (reelectionist)
* Leganes – SB member Vicente Jaen
* Leon – Vice Mayor Malin Cabana-Holipas
* New Lucena – Mayor Christian Sorongon (reelectionist)
* San Miguel – Mayor Marina Gorriceta (reelectionist)
* Santa Barbara – Vice Mayor Rema Somo
* Zarraga – Mayor John Tarrosa (reelectionist)
Mayor Gorriceta said one of two his candidates for Sangguning Panlalawigan member representing the 2nd District is Leon’s “graduating” mayor Rolito Cajilig.
For his other candidate for a Provincial Board seat, Mayor Gorriceta said he was leaving the decision to the NP candidate for governor, Cong. Ferjenel Biron./PN
