Lim-ao Alvarez first to file COC for NegOcc post

BACOLOD City – Former vice governor Genaro “Lim-ao” Alvarez was the first person in Negros Occidental to file a certificate of candidacy (COC) for a provincial position.

Alvarez wants to land a congressional seat as Negros Occidental’s 6th District representative.

He filed his COC at the Commission on Elections provincial office on Oct. 11, the first day of the filing period.

Alvarez was accompanied by his daughter and current 6th District representative Mercedes Alvarez and Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.

After Alvarez, 4th District representative Juliet Ferrer – who seeks re-election – filed her COC.

Ferrer went to the Comelec office with Gov. Alfredo Marañon and her husband former 4th District representative Jeffrey Ferrer.

Jeffrey, meanwhile, will run for vice governor.

The COC filing period will be until Oct. 17.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez urged aspiring candidates of the May 13, 2019 midterm elections to make sure that they have filled out the new COC form.

Iyong lumang form kasi walang question No. 22,” Jimenez said. “Ngayon, if you filed the wrong form, parang hindi ka nag-file ng COC.”/PN
