BACOLOD City – The merger between Love Negros and United Negros Alliance (UNegA) – the two political groups in Negros Occidental – is only for the gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial posts.
There will be no “inter-party intervention” on elective positions other than these two, said Abang Lingkod party-list representative Stephen Paduano, who is allied with Love Negros led by 3rd District representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.
Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson of Love Negros and 4th District representative Jeffrey Ferrer of UNEGA will be running mates – the former for governor and the latter for vice governor – in the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.
Paduano said members of the two political groups may either oppose each other for the congressional, mayoral, vice mayoral, and city or municipal council positions, or not.
He added that these positions are “free zones.”
The congressman cited the case in Himamaylan City where Love Negros and UNEGA both have slates for the congressional, mayoral and vice mayoral posts.
He also cited the case in Talisay City where Love Negros’ Mayor Neil Lizares and UNEGA’s Vice Mayor Samuel Siote will both seek re-election.
Talisay City’s Councilor Zenia Astorga, a member of UNEGA, will also run for vice mayor, opposing Siote.
Paduano said UNEGA will have to settle the “problem.”/PN
