Running vs best friend an ‘exciting fight’ – David Lacson

BACOLOD City – Running against his best friend for mayor will be an “exciting fight,” according to 3rd District Provincial Board member David Albert Lacson.

Lacson filed his certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections municipal office in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, the last day of the filing period.

He will oppose incumbent Mayor Marvin Malacon, his best friend, in next year’s midterm elections.

Malacon is allied with Love Negros while Lacson, with the United Negros Alliance.

The two political groups have planned to have a unified ticket in E.B. Magalona.

But this failed as Malacon – who was offered to seek reelection with Lacson as his vice running mate – turned down the proposal.

According to Lacson, Malacon’s candidates for councilor did not agree with the members of his line-up.

“That is why I decided to run against Malacon,” Lacson added.

Despite this, he said he wants next year’s mayoral election to the peaceful, adding that he and Malacon are “still good friends.”

Lacson will run with Atty. Hope Marey Depasucat as his vice mayoral candidate, who will be up against incumbent Councilor Melvin Matulac.

Seven people are running for councilor under the Lacson-Depasucat tandem – incumbent Councilor Anton Magalona and newcomers Danilo Danico, Mario Salcedo, Joey Abonales, Romel Mogul, Noel Resuma, and Virgilio Montero./PN
