Capiz gubernatorial race turns into 4-cornered fight

ROXAS City – Not only three but four people filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for the Capiz gubernatorial race next year, according to Provincial Election Officer Atty. Wil Arceño.

Arceño said incumbent Vice Gov. Esteban Contreras filed his COC for governor before the Commission on Elections provincial office closed on Wednesday, the last day of the filing period.

Contreras will be up against reelectionist Gov. Antonio del Rosario, Joel Longares and Elmer Villasis.

It will also be a four-cornered fight for Capiz’s vice gubernatorial post – with James Magbañua, Nelson Albaña, Ricardo Bascos, and Romualdo Exmundo as candidates.

There are also four people running for the congressional seat of Capiz 1st District – reelectionist Capiz 1st District representative Emmanuel Billones, Ruth Dinglasan So-Chan, Marcelo Barruela Jr., and Provincial Board member Blesilda Almalbis.

Reelectionist 2nd District representative Fredenil Castro will be up against only one candidate, Maria Vilma Besana.
