ILOILO – The towns of Mina and Tubungan were cited as “most business-friendly” local government units (LGUs) in the province in the third to sixth class municipality category.
The citation was from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) that organized the 44th Philippine Business Conference and Expo on Oct. 19 at Manila Hotel with the theme “Infrastructure and Digital Economy: The Game Changers.”
On behalf of Mina, Municipal Assessor Dory Emelo received the plaque of special citation.
Emelo said this was the second consecutive year for Mina to be cited for being business-friendly.
The “indicators” Mina met for bagging the citation were the following:
* ease of doing business
* competitiveness
* promotion of a business-friendly community through the implementation of various programs
According to Emelo, Mina has a “one-stop shop” for the processing of requirements that businesses must comply to operate in the town.
“Ang ila pag-apply sang business permit and license pila lang ka minutes makuha na,” said Emelo.
The one-stop shop is composed of the municipal Business Permit and Licensing Office, health office for sanitary permits, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine National Police.
The one-stop shop was established way back in 2010 during the term of then mayor Lydia Grabato, now the municipal administrator Lydia Grabato. Her husband Rey is the current mayor.
According to Emelo, there are over 500 registered businesses in Mina, a fifth-class municipality made up of 22 barangays.
The town of Tubungan, on the other hand, is a fourth-class municipality with 48 barangays./PN
