ILOILO – A total of 108 persons in this province are running for mayor in the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.
Some are independent candidates while others are members of political parties, a consolidated report of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office showed.
Political parties represented are the Nacionalista Party (NP), Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), Liberal Party (LP), United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), National Unity Party (NUP), and Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), among others.
However, there could still be changes in the candidates for mayor. According to provincial election supervisor Atty. Elizabeth Doronila, Comelec is accepting withdrawal of certificates of candidacy (COCs) and substitution of candidates until Nov. 29.
Comelec is also currently evaluating the COCs filed last week and would weed out nuisance candidates and others who may have failed the requirements or criteria.
It will be releasing the list of official candidates for all positions in December yet, said Doronila.
