BACOLOD City – A scheduled power interruption on Sunday will not affect MassKara Festival sites, assured the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).
Ceneco and the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NCGP) released an advisory that there will be a power service interruption affecting the Sum-ag and Lag-asan substations on Oct. 28 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said Ceneco will take advantage of this downtime to carry out “simultaneous maintenance activities.”
“This is to ensure the stability of distribution lines and avoid further serious damage that may result to major interruptions,” said Lagarde.
But the Ceneco official clarified that the power interruption does not cover the public plaza, Bacolod City Government Center, and the Tourism Strip on Lacson Street – the MassKara Festival sites.
One of the highlights of the festival – the Street and Arena Dance Competition, Barangay Category – will be held on Sunday at the public plaza.
Lagarde assured that power lines at the public plaza will be operational on Sunday.
The NGCP cited “maintenance activities along the Bacolod-San Enrique 69-kilovolt line” as reason for the scheduled power interruption.
Meanwhile Lagarde advised consumers to switch off electrical lights and appliances during power interruptions.
“When electricity supply resumes, please provide an allowance of about 10 to 15 minutes before switching on electrical appliances and facilities to avoid power surge,” he said./PN
