NATIONAL Master Cesar Mariano and Nemesio Orlina III ruled the 2018 Dalawahan Chess Team Tournament Halloween Edition on Sunday at the GT Town Center in Pavia, Iloilo.
Playing for the Freedom Fighters Team, Mariano and Orlina ruled Board 1 and Board 2, respectively, to capture the P3,000 top prize.
National Master Francis Jocson (Board 1) and Winston Clyde Andaya Ramos (Board 2) of the Roxas City Team settled for a runner-up finish and took home a P2,000 cash prize.
Coming in on third place was the BBS Team (Central Philippine University) of Lanz Vincent Vencer (Board 1) and Jovelyn Sepanton (Board 2). They took home the P1,500 cash prize.
On fourth place were Roxas’ Marshmallow Team of Felixberto Baguyo Jr. (Board 1) and Pericles Chua (Board 2). They received P1,200 cash.
Iloilo’s Lemjo team of Lemuel Nicolo (Board 1) and Joseph Gatpatan Deveza (Board 2) claimed the fifth spot and the P1,000 cash prize.
The National Chess Federation of the Philippines-sanctioned event was organized by the Pavia Chessers Club.
Other participating teams were Guimaras LD, Westbridge Chess Club, B Brothers, Ishkimi, San Lorenzo, Pavia Chessers, RMP, Guimaras WH, San Miguel A and B, Pavia Thinkers, Guimaras Chess Club, Pavia Gamblers, Stallion, Hibao-an, Sibunag Dreamers, RANHS, Rufino High, Available, Oberio, Inter Faith Academy, LCC, and Oton Chessers./PN
