ILOILO – The provincial government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) bagged the 2017 National Best Peso Award (first-class province category) for the third straight year.
It was feted during 18th National PESO Congress in Davao City on Oct. 26.
The win resulted to PESO Iloilo being declared a “hall of famer” in the annual search for outstanding PESOs, said PESO Iloilo chief Francisco Heler Jr.
For its 2017 National Best Peso Award, PESO Iloilo received a cash prize of P100,000 and a plaque of recognition.
It received an additional P150,000 and plaque for being a hall of famer.
PESO Iloilo was cited as the best in the first-class province category, too, in 2015 and 2016.
In the 2017 edition of the competition, PESO Iloilo tied with PESO Tarlac.
Heler said among PESO Iloilo’s “best practices” were referral and job placements, career coaching and employment orientation of students, job fairs, establishing a PESO Employment Information System, and tapping barangay PESO coordinators.
In the area of job placement, Heler said, PESO Iloilo helped 5,557 Ilonggos find jobs (domestic and overseas) in 2017.
In 2016, PESO Iloilo helped 3,369 Ilonggo jobseekers.
Heler also said PESO Iloilo has been helping municipalities set up their own PESOs.
To symbolize the cooperation of municipalities with PESO Iloilo, Alimodian, Iloilo’s Mayor Geefree Alonsabe was given the honor of receiving PESO Iloilo’s hall of fame plaque of recognition during the awarding ceremony, said Heler./PN
