Red Cross collects 22 drums of blood in Capiz

ROXAS City – A total of 10,348 blood units of 450 cubic centimeters each of whole blood have been collected from January to Oct. 24 this year in view of the continuing voluntary blood donation campaign in the province.

The blood collection during the period could fill in 22 typical blue drums with a capacity of 208 liters each.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Capiz Chapter Donor Recruitment Officer Ketch Armiza said that the figure already represents 1.31 percent of the province’s total population.

“Eleven municipalities have already reached their respective target of blood units collection which is one percent of their population,” noted Armiza, stressing that Dumalag town remains a top performer with 923 blood units collection accomplishment or 3.03 percent of the municipality’s recorded population.

Dumalag has been the champion of the annual Blood Olympics program of the Department of Health and PRC in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

He added that three more towns could possibly make up to the target based on the calendar of mass blood donations for the last two months of 2018. (PIA/PN)
