MANILA – Those who will be delisted from the roster of 2019 midterm election candidates will be given a chance to explain.
Commission on Elections spokesman James Jimenez said Monday those who will be declared “nuisance candidates” may still justify their capabilities to participate in next year’s polls.
“Magkakaroon ng conference and then the (nuisance candidates) will be asked to submit their memoranda. These are written position papers. If the issue is complex, then it might take a little longer to resolve the question,” Jimenez said.
Comelec was scheduled to release the screened list of candidates – and the list of nuisance candidates – on Dec. 15.
“We are focusing right now on the cleaning up of the list of candidates preparatory to the releasing on Dec. 15,” Jimenez said. “Ongoing ang bidding natin for ballot paper in preparation for ballot printing in January.”
The election period begins Jan. 12 next year and will end July 12./PN
