BACOLOD City – A 17-year-old boy was found dead in their house in Barangay Banquerohan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental in an apparent suicide.
His father found the body of the Grade 10 student on Monday, police investigators said.
John Mervin Lapid was taken to the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic where a doctor pronounced him dead, said Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, Cadiz police head.
According to investigators, the boy committed suicide by hanging. The father, whom the police have not identified, told them his son used a belt.
From what the investigators have gathered, Lapid and his father were about to talk that day about a supposed problem at school.
The father went to the Cadiz City proper to buy something. When he returned home, their door was locked, making him suspicious. He forcibly opened their door and found the body, police said.
Before leaving home, the father advised Lapid to keep studying and not to be like his elder brother who quit school, added the police.
An adviser for Lapid at the Dr. Vicente Gustilo Memorial National High School, Eduardo Barilea, said in a radio interview that Lapid did not have failing grades but was, along with his classmates, required to submit projects./PN
