BACOLOD City – Unidentified armed individuals attacked a building under construction in Sitio Las Altas, Purok 12-A, Barangay Alangilan, according to Police Station 5.
Around five people barged into the construction site late Tuesday night, stated a report released by the station.
The armed persons smashed the building’s glass windows and tried to set the structure ablaze, the police station said, citing information from a 52-year-old local, Johnny Olarte.
The property was owned by the family of Mayor Evelio Leonardia and being developed by businessman Ian Lo, the police report further stated.
Sought for comment on the incident, Leonardia denied that they have a property in that part of Barangay Alangilan.
“Where did that report come from?” the mayor said. “The elections are near and suddenly I have a property? I think this about politics.”
Leonardia said the Ian Lo he knows owns the Negros Grace Pharmacy and is a brother of Jonathan Lo, president and CEO of CM and Sons Food Products, Inc., parent company of Merzci Pasalubong.
“I’m asking the people not to fall prey to false information,” stressed the mayor.
The Bacolod City Police Office has yet to comment on and give further information with regard to the incident as of this writing./PN
