“I’M not afraid of cockroaches,” in the case of Liza Soberano, is a statement that’s proven to be fact, following the viral video of her unflinching reaction to an insect crawling up her arm, all the while thinking it was a cockroach.
Soberano, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful faces in local showbiz, inadvertently launched a meme with her recent “What’s in the Box” challenge.
“Umarte nang naaayon sa ganda,” so goes the running joke, with fans pledging to welcome cockroaches on the dinner table or engage them in conversation, among other “friendly” gestures.
Soberano, 20, is not oblivious to her challenge taking social media by storm, with many who watched the videos praising her for being “fearless.”
“I think I’m a pretty brave girl, but I wouldn’t say I’m fearless,” Soberano said. “Of course, there are things I’m afraid of, but I’m not afraid of insects. I’m not afraid of cockroaches.”
Asked for her reaction to the meme that ranks her beauty as the standard for determining how one should behave, Soberano said, “I actually saw the comments! I was laughing!”
“It was really funny, and I’m just amazed by how fast it reached everybody, and how amazed they are by it,” she added. (ABS-CBN News)
