BACOLOD City – A United Nations-recognized safe driving program gathered 252 participants at the SMX Convention Center.
Among them were drivers of private vehicles and public utility vehicles, traffic enforcers, road safety advocates, and student drivers.
Conducted free of charge, the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program was a combination of classroom training and hands-on driving simulation with trainers and facilitators from the Tuason Racing School.
Two sessions were held: one in the morning, another in the afternoon. Each session ran for about two hours.
An automobile manufacturer held the DSFL in this city last Thursday for the first time with the aim of educating drivers on the necessary skills to minimize road crashes, altercations and traffic congestion.
The organizer also wanted to show the benefits of smart, safe and fuel-efficient driving.
Ultimately they wanted to build a bigger community of safe drivers and road safety advocates in the Philippines, said EJ Francisco, assistant vice president for communications of Ford Philippines.
The DSFL program focused on training more drivers of public utility vehicles – particularly buses, school buses, jeepneys, and taxis – to be safer and more responsible drivers, said Francisco.
Bacolod City registered 92,827 motor vehicles last year – 22.31 percent of the 416,136 total motor vehicles registered in Western Visayas – data from the Land Transportation Office showed. (With Philippine News Agency/PN)
