MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School claimed its second straight win in the Rebisco Volleyball League 2018 National Finals after a 25-9, 25-15 win over St. Alexine College at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Erika Jin Deloria claimed her second consecutive Best Player of the Game honor after tallying 9 points, on eight attacks and a block, on Sunday to lead the way for the Western Visayas representative.
Deloria, a transferee from Trinity Christian School, showed she already adapted to the Tay Tung system with strong showing in the first and second sets.
Just like in their lopsided win against Sarawak on Saturday, Tay Tung surged to an early double-digit edge in the opening period behind Deloria, Joan Marie Monares and Shane Carmona and never looked back.
But St. Alexine kept the match close in the second set and even forced a 10-all deadlock before Tay Tung pulled away for good with hits from Deloria and Kiesha Bedonia.
“We are happy with our performance in the first two games but we know the tougher opponents have yet to come, so we have to remain focused on our game plan,” said Tay Tung assistant coach Biboy Calamba.
Tay Tung, which was under coach Ian Macariola, was facing fellow Visayas team Leyte National High School as of press time as it aimed to secure a semifinals seat./PN
