THE Department of the Interior and Local Government has no plans to stop FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano from airing nor does it want to change the show’s storyline.
This was according to DILG secretary Eduardo Año. He fielded the comment on Monday amid the issue concerning the “negative portrayal” of the Philippine National Police in the ABS-CBN prime-time series.
Año said the DILG and the production staff of Ang Probinsyano will sit down on the matter this week.
“We are always open to dialogue and we look forward to meeting with them soon…We are looking forward to a constructive meeting where both parties can relay their honest views to each other,” said Año.
He also commented on the “purely fictional” disclaimer of the show. The DILG head said there are limitations to fiction, especially in the case of Ang Probinsyano where they use the name, logo and uniform of the PNP.
Año said this is a violation of Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code.
DILG assistant secretary Jonathan Malaya also commented on the issue. He said: “We are disturbed, to say the least, that Ang Probinsyano has been using the name of the PNP, its logo, and other identifying characteristics while tarnishing the image of the police organization by portraying a scalawag Chief PNP and corrupt police officers who do illegal activities.” (Pep.ph)
