MANILA – Generika Ayala Lifesavers ended their first-round campaign in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on a high note as they hammered a 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19 victory over Cocolife Asset Managers on Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain led the way with 22 points while Ilongga Fiola Ceballos had triple-double of 20 markers, 13 digs and 13 excellent receptions for the Lifesavers (4-3).
Angeli Araneta and Marivic Meneses also had big contributions for Generika, chipping in 18 and 10 markers, respectively, while Kath Arado registered double-double 31 digs and 21 excellent receptions.
After playing subpar in the first two sets, the Lifesavers came alive in the third period as they created distance from the Asset Managers in each set before preventing the recovery of their opponent.
“Sinabihan ko sa kanila (after the second set) na parang ayaw nila maglaro eh,” said Lifesavers assistant coach Parley Tupaz. “Mabuti na lang nagising iyong mga bata in time.”
Kalei Mau finished with 26 points while Arianna Angustia and Patria Jela Peña had 10 markers apiece for the Asset Managers, which suffered their second straight loss and sixth overall this conference.
Also marching into the second round of competition with high morale was last year’s runner-up F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, which dominated Smart Giga Hitters 25-11, 25-22, 25-17.
Mary Joy Baron fired 11 attacks, two blocks and two aces to finish with 15 points while Kim Fajardo tallied 29 excellent sets to go along with seven hits for the Cargo Movers (5-2)./PN
