MANILA – Seven in 10 Filipino mid-level professionals are “satisfied” with their jobs and nearly half expect to receive a pay hike in 2019, a recent survey by recruitment firm Robert Walters showed.
Forty-two percent of accountants, bankers, IT experts, human resource and marketing personnel polled from January to October want a salary increase of at least 10 percent next year to be able to sustain their lifestyles and feel valued in the company, the survey showed.
Rising consumer prices was not the primary factor that drives employees to seek pay increases. Inflation was steady at 6.7 percent for the second straight month in October, Robert Walters Philippines country manager Monty Sujanani told reporters.
“It’s not all about the money. A lot of it has to do with self-worth, how much they are worth,” he said.
These workers know that they are in demand and that they can ask for more, he said.
The government’s new tax scheme is driving the demand for employees with experience in taxation and audit, he said.
The private sector’s shift to automation and preference for data driven decision making pushes them to hire more IT specialists and data analysts, he said.
“We see [data analyst] candidates asking for 60 percent more and companies are paying. They are in demand,” he said.
Filipino professionals also prefer to work for employers who provide training programs and work from home schemes, the survey showed.
“You see a lot of employees spending a lot of time on the road so flexible working arrangements with their employers is a big factor,” Sujunani said.
“Things are getting expensive, the costs go up, they want money, but it boils down to them wanting to be happy with their lifestyles,” he said. (ABS-CBN News)
