ILOILO City – Police shot a drug suspect in Nueva Valencia town in the island province of Guimaras who they claimed tried to fire at officers out to disarm him.
Russel Depliyan of Barangay Salvacion, Nueva Valencia sustained three gunshot wounds.
He was taken to a hospital in this city, said Senior Superintendent Julio Gustilo, Guimaras police director. Gustilo was unable to identify the hospital.
Officers monitoring drug suspects in the village spotted Depliyan at around 10 p.m. Saturday and saw a homemade .38 revolver tucked in his waist, Gustilo said.
“Our officers tried to disarm him and he still managed to grab his gun and fire at the police, but the firearm malfunctioned,” Gustilo said. “The offices shot Depliyan to subdue him.”
Depliyan sustained gunshot wounds on the shoulder and feet.
Gustilo, citing their records, said Depliyan was a “newly identified drug personality.”
“He started engaging in the drug trade a month ago,” said the police official./PN
