BACOLOD City – There were already 13 people who died of dengue in this city so far this year, according to the City Health Office.
The CHO’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit has recorded 11 deaths as of Nov. 3. Two more died as of Nov. 17, or just two weeks later.
But the number of cases as of the latest monitoring period was lower compared to the figure in the same period last year.
Bacolod posted 1,206 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Nov. 17.
These were 31.7-percent lower than the 1,767 cases monitored during the same period last year, CHO records showed.
The two latest casualties were all 3-year-old girls, one from Barangay Villamonte, another from Barangay Bata, said Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO’s Environment and Sanitation Division.
Among barangays, Handumanan had the most number of dengue cases with 129.
Taculing was next with 108; Estefania, 107; Mansilingan, 97; Villamonte, 78; Alijis, 71; Singcang-Airport, 70; Sum-ag, 64; Granada, 53; and Pahanocoy, 49.
Moreover Handumanan, Taculing, Estefania, Mansilingan, and Alijis were the top five villages where cases continued to rise, as shown in the CHO’s Jan. 1 to Nov. 17 monitoring record.
Ironically Handumanan was recently recognized by the local government as the cleanest barangay among rural villages in the city.
The barangay won first place in the Rural Barangay category of the Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Most Well-Managed Solid Waste Management Program./PN
