MEGASTAR Sharon Cuneta did not only guest in “Regine at the Movies,” the concept concert of newest Kapamilya artist Regine Velasquez-Alcasid last Saturday night at the New Frontier Theater. Cuneta also surprised Velasquez with a “very, very expensive” two-finger diamond ring.
As the two superstars engaged in a friendly banter onstage after performing Cuneta’s popular movie themes – “Bituing Walang Ningning” and “Pangarap na Bituin” – the latter gave Velasquez a gift.
“Hindi kita talaga matiis, meron akong gustong ibigay sa ‘yo,” Cuneta told the Songbird.
“Every year, God is so good to me. He gives me gifts. This year, He gave me a few, not just one. There was a year when He gave me Ogie and Ogie is now one of my best friends. I opened up my heart to him. He prays with me. This year, He gave me you. We had no time to be close before.”
Velasquez was simply reduced to repeatedly say, “Awww.”
“Nanood ka ba ng ‘Sex and the City 2’,” Cuneta asked Velasquez. “There was this scene where there was this auction – do you remember the scene? – and Samantha was going to buy this beautiful ring. Then her boyfriend bought it for her. Ako, upset ako dahil gusto kong bilhin ‘yung singsing. So nagpagawa ako. Ito ang ibibigay ko sa ‘yo.”
Cuneta removed the big, glittering jewelry from her right hand and gave it to Velasquez, who unbelievably, exclaimed, “Ay, sosyal! Hindi nga? Pwede bang isangla ito?”
“Two fingers, sweetheart,” Cuneta directed. “See, this is the exact same ring (in ‘Sex and the City’). Seriously, this to commemorate the first time that we worked together. Huwag mong isangla. Pinaghirapan naman ‘yan. Mga 10 years ‘yan ng 40 (years) ko.”
Still, Velasquez found it unbelievable that she received an expensive gift from the Megastar. “Di ba dapat ako ang nagbibigay kasi dahil ikaw ang nag-guest?” she told Cuneta.
“Hindi ko ginagawa ito. Ngayon lang,” Cuneta countered. “Sometimes, I get this feeling that I want to give. This is the most expensive gift I’ve given to anyone.”
Then, looking at the expensive ring, Cuneta said, “I will miss you. I love you so much.” (ABS-CBN)
