SAN JOSE, Antique – Students in three municipalities in Antique were benefitting from the public Wi-Fi installed in their towns, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
Free internet connectivity provided by the government has been available in the towns of Tibiao, Tobias Fornier and Bugasong since last year.
“Students in these municipalities are using it for their research work,” said Engr. Arnold Abagat, DICT provincial field team leader.
Antique has 18 municipalities. Except for Caluya, Sebaste, San Remigio, and San Jose, all the rest were already connected to the internet highway.
Abagat could not say for now when these four towns would have their free public Wi-Fi.
“The DICT Project Management Office, through a contractor, is in charge of the installation of the link,” he said on Monday.
After installing the link, the contractor must install the access point, or hotspot, for the signal, said the DICT official.
Meanwhile the DICT was waiting for a memorandum of agreement between the DICT provincial office and the provincial government for the installation of free Wi-Fi at the lobby of the capitol.
The internet connection will be made available to all provincial government employees and the public transacting at the building, Abagat said.
“The free Wi-Fi project is aimed at making the technology accessible to unserved and underserved areas,” he said. (With Philippine News Agency/PN)
