Ex Capiz guv Tanco files COC for vice guv under PDP-Laban

ROXAS City – Former Capiz governor Victor Tanco, Sr., filed his Certificate of Candidacy for vice governor – as a substitute for former Tapaz mayor Romualdo Exmundo who has chosen to run for board member – on the last day of substitution on Thursday at the Provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) office.

Tanco did not personally appear at the Comelec office – he was instead represented by PDP-Laban provincial chairman Essex Quintia who filed the COC on his behalf around 4:45 p.m.

Tanco, a former member of the Liberal Party and a three-term governor whose tenure ended in 2013, said his run for vice governor under PDP-Laban was a “personal decision.”

When asked if his move was retaliation against the Liberal Party after being snubbed from its slate for the 2019 midterm elections, Tanco said only PDP-Laban was willing to field him a position.

“Maybe I am of no use to them [Liberal Party] anymore, but I did not feel hurt. I am just looking an opportunity to serve the people of Capiz,” Tanco said in an interview with Panay News.

Tanco’s son Victor Tanco, Jr., is running for board member in the 2nd district of Capiz under the Liberal Party.

Tanco is running against former board member James Magbanua of the National Unity Party, the endorsed candidate of the Liberal Party.

Aside from Magbanua, Dr. Gilson Albaña of the Hugpong Federal nang Pilipinas is also a vice governor contender./PN
