SWEEPING all its four matches, Central Philippine University captured the tertiary men’s football title at the 2018 Iloilo PRISAA Meet.
Its final win came at the expense of Western Institute of Technology 2-1 over the weekend at the CPU football field.
This was the second 2018 Iloilo PRISAA football title for CPU. Its secondary boys team bagged the crown by defeating Ateneo de Iloilo 7-1.
The college Golden Lions started the match on the wrong foot, conceding a first-half goal to WIT’s Joshua Gatinao.
CPU was able to tie the match early in the second half with a header by Fritz Montilla on a corner kick by Jed Delariarte.
Minutes from the game-tying goal, CPU had the advantage as Patrick Sumergido scored on a breakaway goal before tightening the defense by preventing the opposition from scoring an equalizer.
In its previous matches CPU – mentored by Bob Romel Javellana and Jorge Bellosillo – beat University of San Agustin, 7-1 and 11-0, and WIT, 3-0.
