BACOLOD City – The Department of Public Works and Highways in Negros Occidental (1st District Engineering Office) has allocated P74.11 million for ta road widening project in Barangay Andres Bonifacio, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
The widening of the 2.42-kilometer Vito Port Road began in April. It is expected to be finished by February next year, according to District Engineer Jaime SJ Jav.
“Hopefully, we can complete the widening of this road as scheduled, given good weather condition, so congestion will be reduced and capacity of traffic corridors will be increased by the additional lanes,” Javellana said.
The project involves the concreting of the road and provision of slope protection, drainage and pavement markings.
The project also includes upsizing of reinforced concrete pipe culvert, provision of lined canals and more inlets for mitigation of flooding in the area.
Vito Port serves as a jump-off point to different islands in the province like Carbin Reef, Molocaboc Island, Suyac Island and Macahulom Island. These islands have various tourist spots.
The road widening project is expected to help attract more tourists and thus improve the economy of Negros Occidental.
It will directly benefit approximately 400 residents of Barangay Andres Bonifacio, addressing the traffic problem they face every day.
With the road being widened, lesser road accidents are also seen. (With DPWH Region 6/PN)
