Iloilo Schools Sports Council Meet opens

ILOILO City – Twenty-four events will be played in the elementary and secondary divisions of the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet here.

Schools Division Superintendent Miguel Mac Aposin formally declared the games open during a ceremony Wednesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Barangay Magsaysay Village, La Paz district.

Alexie Mae Caimoso, a silver medalist in high jump in the ASEAN School Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, led the Athlete’s Oath of Amateurism.

Vince Jayson Buhayan of the Nicomedes R. Tubar Sr. National High School in San Dionisio, Iloilo, a finalist in the 200m run of the same tournament, led the entrance of the Torch of Friendship and the lighting of the Urn of Peace and Unity.

The ISSC Meet will determine who will represent Iloilo province in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet next year.

Basketball will have three categories. Elementary boys and secondary girls will be held at the Gaisano City Mall-Powerhouse Sports Hub, while secondary boys will be at La Paz gymnasium. The 3×3 basketball will have the same venue.

Table tennis, swimming, badminton, football, and athletics will be at the Iloilo Sports Complex. Some football games will also be held at the Central Philippine University.

Iloilo National High School will host arnis, boxing and wrestling, while La Paz plaza will be the venue for volleyball, baseball and tennis.

Archery and some gymnastics will be at Pavia National High School in Pavia, Iloilo. Other gymnastics events will be Robinsons Pavia, while billiards will be at GT Mall just across Robinsons.

Other events and their venues are as follows:

* chess – Girl Scouts of the Philippines

* futsal – Western Institute Technology (WIT)

* sepak takraw (senior) – Barangay Isidro, Jaro (covered court) / Barangay Sambag, Jaro

* sepak takraw (juniors) / sipa – Nabitasan Elementary School, La Paz

* softball – West Visayas State University, La Paz

* taekwondo – PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys

* wushu – Jalandoni Memorial National High School

* pencak silat – Ramon Avanceña National High School

* dancesports – WIT New Site

The closing ceremony was scheduled on Dec. 16./PN
