MANILA – Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director Nicanor Faeldon on Friday said he plans to have at least 1,700 paroled inmates by year-end.
Pardoned inmates from January to November this year was placed at 1,557. As of December 14, Faeldon has also approved the parole of 98 inmates.
His average number of signed parole documents daily is not less than 35, he said.
Faeldon said paroled inmates are usually given a transportation allowance by the BuCor to ensure that they will really be able to go home.
Inmates, especially those who are up for parole, also undergo vocational training courses that they could use outside of prison, he added.
Next year, the BuCor plans to increase each inmate’s meal allowance from the current P60 per day to P70 based on the approved budget for 2019 by Congress, Faeldon said.
New x-ray machines and additional CCTV cameras will also be installed inside BuCor starting next year, according to Faeldon.
BuCor might also rent K9 units to improve security against contraband items. (ABS-CBN News)
