TRACKSTERS from Area 7 and NOPSSCEA had a strong start in the athletics event of the 2018 Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan on Monday at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Bernalyn Bejoy of Romanito Maravilla National High School, representing Area 7, has successfully defended her gold medal in the secondary girls 400 meter dash by tallying a personal best of 57.89 seconds.
Area 7’s Trexie Dela Torre and Franzine Alamo, meanwhile, had a gold-silver medal finish in the secondary girls long jump. Dela Torre also tallied a personal best in her event with 5.77 meter leap.
Area 7’s Reniel Gustillo and Jennifer Hudieres also delivered gold medals in secondary boys and girls 100 meter hurdles, respectively, while June Philip Martinez bagged a gold in secondary boys shot put.
NOPSSCEA, meanwhile, had a gold medal from Jade Cordova in elementary girls 100 meter hurdles, while siblings Ara Rahbea and Shaltea Delotavo finished with silver and bronze medals in secondary 100 m hurdles and elementary 400 m dash, respectively.
Meanwhile, Althea Descutido spearheaded NOPSSCEA’s overall championship in secondary girls rhythmic gymnastics after capturing five golds and one silver medal on Monday.
Descutido, who is from Trinity Christian Academy, captured her gold medals in individual all around, hoop, ball, clubs and team, while her silver medals were from rope.
Descutido’s teammates Kiana Marie Alagaban and Ella Jamelo finished second and third place in individual all around. Jaedriana Mariel Tirazona had a bronze in elementary girls individual all around./PN
