BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and Living Stones International School, both of NOPSSCEA, had a winning start in the secondary volleyball of the 2018 Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan on Monday in Bacolod City.
The Thunderbolts started strong in the secondary girls volleyball after a 25-11, 25-8 victory over the Area 9 behind the strong showings of Erika Deloria and Joan Marie Monares.
The Thunderbolts surged to an early double-digit lead in the opening set courtesy of hits by Deloria and Monares. It was the same scenario in the second to allow the NOPSSCEA to cruise to an easy win.
Living Stones International School-NOPSSCEA, meanwhile, survived a huge challenge from Bacolod City before tallying a 27-25, 19-25, 25-22 victory in the secondary boys volleyball.
It was a seesaw battle for both teams in the opening set but the Living Stones proved to be the steadier team to escape with a two-point win. Bacolod City responded in the second set with a strong start to level the set count at 1-1.
In the third set, Living Stones jumped to a 6-0 start and later led by as much as 21-10 but the Bacolod City countered with its own rally to cut the deficit to 19-22 but timely shots from NOPSSCEA representatives allowed them to escape with the win.
