Bacolod ‘traffic experiment’ ends but…

BACOLOD City – Except for the one-way traffic scheme, the “traffic experiment” covering streets around a new mall here ended yesterday.

The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office carried out the traffic experiment that included rerouting and extension of routes of public utility jeepneys and a one-way traffic scheme from Dec. 12 to 19.

There will be no more rerouting and extension of routes starting today pending an assessment on Dec. 28 but the one-way traffic scheme will continue, said BTAO head Luisito Acebuche.

The traffic experiment covered the street fronting Ayala Malls Capitol Central, and the North and South Capitol Roads along the mall’s sides.

Affected PUJ routes were Bata-Libertad, Mandalagan-Libertad, Libertad-Banago, Fortune Towne-Central Market, Homesite-Central Market.

The routes of vans bound for the South Terminal, the airport and the seaport were affected as well.

The BTAO carried out the traffic experiment upon the approval of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. Acebuche said he asked for the scheme on the request of Ayala Land, Inc.

Ayala Malls Capitol Central was just behind the Negros Occidental provincial capitol.

Acebuche originally wanted a 60-day traffic experiment but the city council approved only a one-week period, said Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the committee on transportation.

After that the BTAO and Ramos will meet to assess the traffic experiment.

Expect the result of the traffic experiment’s assessment to be released next month, after the holidays, said Acebuche./PN
