Antique cop shoots PWD

SAN JOSE, Antique – A policeman on duty shot a person with disability in Anini-y, Antique on Christmas Day.

The 35-year-old Jimmy “Robot” Solis of Barangay Sagua, Anini-y sustained a gunshot wound on the left thigh.

Police Officer 1 Ian Rey Farparan – the cop who shot Solis – brought the victim to the Diosdado Macapagal District Hospital in nearby Tobias Fornier town.

Solis was later referred to the Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital in San Jose for further medical treatment. He was currently recuperating at the hospital.

Farparan – a resident of Barangay Badiang, San Jose who was assigned at the Anini-y municipal police station – admitted shooting Solis.

The police officer said he was about to board a patrol car to respond to a call in Barangay Bayo Grande, Anini-y when he saw Solis running toward the dark portion of the road around 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 25.

This made him suspicious, Farparan said.

Police forces in Antique are on “full alert status” to counter crimes this holiday season.

According to Farparan, he told Solis to stop running but the latter refused to.

Senior Police Officer 2 Antonio Mañosa, who was with Farparan at the time, also gave a warning shot but Solis kept running.

Solis pointed something at Farparan which the police officer believed to be a gun at first; that was when the latter fired for self-defense.

It later turned out that Solis was only holding a grass cutter.

Meanwhile, several bullet holes were found in a room at the convent of the St. John Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Anini-y.

Superintendent Norby Escobar, Antique Police Provincial Office deputy director for operations, said he already deployed a team to investigate the matter./PN
