Bacolod City College produces 86 new teachers

BACOLOD City – Eighty-six graduates from the Bacolod City College (BCC) have passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) given last September.

BCC has consistently ranked among the country’s Top 10 in passing percentage and has also produced topnotchers in previous years.

The city government-run school was founded in 1997. It has already produced a total of 10,056 graduates from 2000 to 2018.

“I have always considered BCC as my flagship project because I know the future of our children hinges on their degrees. And it makes me even prouder that while we have the cheapest tuition at only P30 per unit since 1997 up to now, we can give them quality education,” Mayor Evelio Leonardia said.

BCC-College of Education department head Dr. Elias Alias said they have 42 passers in the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), 26 in Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in English, and 18 BSEd major in Mathematics.

BCC’s BSEd Mathematics program had a 100-percent passing rate (all 18 takers passed), BSEd English had 81.25 percent (26 passed out of 32), and BEEd, 62.68 percent (42 passed out of 67).

Alias said the passing rate of BCC elementary education this year was 58.3 percent, while the national passing rate was 20.08 percent. For secondary education, the BCC passing rate was 70.14 percent, while the national passing rate was 48.03 percent.

BCC also ranked 23rd in the Top 24 Best Performing Schools in the Philippines out of 4,500 colleges and universities offering education courses, Alias added. (With Bacolod City PIO/PN)
