KALIBO, Aklan β The new Commission on Elections (Comelec) supervisor in Aklan assumed post on Dec. 28 in the person of Atty. Gloria Doronilla.
Doronilla replaced Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, who was assigned in Guimaras province, also replacing Atty. Salud Milagros Villanueva.
Prior to her assignment in Aklan, Doronilla worked in Comelec-Iloilo in 2016 and Comelec-Capiz in 2013.
All Comelec provincial supervisors in the region were reassigned in light of the upcoming May 2019 midterm national and local elections, said Comelec-Aklan spokesman Crispin Raymund Gerardo.
The poll body has set the election period on Jan. 13 to June 12. The Election Day is on May 13.
Gerardo said the inter-agency committee of Comelec, Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also convened the Provincial Joint Security Control Center to discuss security measures in the province for peaceful and orderly elections.
βComelec has the authority in security and preparations for the May midterm election. Gun ban is also in effect during the Kalibo, Aklan Ati-Atihan festival,β he added.
Prohibited acts during the election period are the transfer of civil service eligible employees, suspension of any elective provincial, city, municipal or barangay officer and use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates.
Police will also conduct simultaneous checkpoints across Aklan starting Jan. 13 to ensure compliance with the nationwide gun ban under Comelec Resolution No. 10429. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
