BACOLOD City – The clustered barangays of Mansalanao and Sag-ang were declared champions in La Castellana, Negros Occidental’s 2019 Bailes de Luces street and arena dance competition.
They received P100,000 cash prize after besting four other clusters in the Jan. 5 barangay category competition.
Landing in second place were the clustered barangays of Biak-na-bato and Masulog, followed by clustered barangays Lalagsan and Nato in third place.
The second and third placers received P75,000 and P50,000 cash prizes, respectively.
The two losing clusters were given each a P10,000 consolation prize.
Each of the competing barangay clusters were also given P100,000 subsidy courtesy of the La Castellana municipal government.
Aside from the barangays, schools also perform during the annual festival known for its “dancing lights.”
This year, only two schools participated – the Cabacungan Elementary School and the Manghanoy Elementary School.
The Cabacungan Elementary School landed in first place while the Manghanoy Elementary School, in second place, receiving P100,000 and P75,000 cash prizes respectively.
The schools were also given a P60,000 subsidy each.
Mayor Rhumyla Mangilimutan, meanwhile, said the celebration that started on Dec. 30 was peaceful and successful.
No untoward incidents had been recorded, she added./PN
