BACOLOD City – The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra – the country’s leading symphony orchestra – will stage a two-night outreach concert in this capital city on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

The Philharmonic Orchestra, a resident musical company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), will hold the first night of the concert at the SMX Convention Center. Audience will be chosen “by invitation” only, said Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

On Feb. 1, the orchestra will perform in an open air concert at the Bacolod City Government Center fountain area where the public can watch.

“Bacolod has to grow in all aspects, including culture. We are also inviting the barangays to watch this concert,” Leonardia said.

Councilor Em Ang, the concert’s project manager, said they had been meeting with CCP president Arsenio Lizaso and other CCP officials since last year to make sure that the Bacolod concert is included in the 2019 concert calendar of the premiere orchestra.

Ang said the two-night concert is part of the orchestra’s program which aims to “promote music appreciation in underserved communities in the different regions in the country.”

“The 80-man Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are fortunate that it has chosen Bacolod to promote its music,” Ang added.

“It will boost our efforts to revive our people’s interest in the performing arts,” she stressed.

Civic and business leaders, government officials and employees, Education officials, and performing arts enthusiasts are invited to watch the concert. (With a report from the Bacolod City PIO/PN)
