MANILA – College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers cruised to its seventh straight win in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball after a 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 sweep over San Sebastian College Lady Stags on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
Rachel Austero led the way with 13 points, on 10 attacks, two blocks and a service ace, while Klarissa Abriam and Chelsea Umali combined for 19 markers for the Lady Blazers.
The victory moved the Lady Blazers to a tie at second place with San Beda University Lady Red Spikers at 7-1 win-loss slate and can secure the no. 2 spot with a win over lowly Mapua University Lady Cardinals on Monday.
Even with the strong showing this season, Lady Blazers head coach Jerry Yee said that they are still a lot of things to work on their performance as they prepare for the playoffs round.
“Yung slow start, pati meron pa kaming small errors na dapat ayusin. Ang gusto namin ma-polish, makita ‘yung improvements. Pero okay naman ‘yung ganun. Ibig sabihin meron pa tayong mga aayusin,” Yee said.
Maryrhose Dapol and Joyce Sta. Rita scored eight points each for the Lady Stags, which is in danger of missing the Final Four round for the second straight year with its 4-4 card.
Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippine University Lady Pirates took advantage of the lapses of the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals to score a 25-17, 25-16, 27-25 win.
Rocelyn Hongria finished with 17 points, on 13 attacks, three kill blocks and an ace, while Bien Juanillo and Cherilyn Sindayen combined for 19 markers for the Lady Pirates (3-5)./PN
