ILOILO City – While it is ready to deploy street sweepers for the upcoming Dinagyang Festival, the General Services Office (GSO) appealed to all spectators to help maintain cleanliness in the city.

A total of 90 street sweepers for City Proper alone will be deployed during the three-day highlights of the festival, according to GSO assistant head Engineer Neil Ravena.

Naga-apelar kita sa aton pumoluyo sa syudad sang Iloilo nga sa aton selebrasyon sang Dinagyang, sa aton pagsinadya, kabay pa tani nga buligan ta man ang syudad nga ma-maintain ang katinlo,” Ravena said.

The public was urged to throw their trash in garbage bins the GSO will put in various locations.

If they cannot find one, Ravena encouraged the public to keep their trash until such time they find a garbage bin.

Ravena also said they will assign cleaners in each judging area. Ten inspectors and supervisors will also be assigned to monitor these zones.

GSO personnel will have garbage bags to collect trash in each of the judging area.

Ravena said they are expecting “tripled or quadrupled” volume of waste after Dinagyang.

A total of 220 street sweepers were already commissioned to clean the city streets on Jan. 28, he added.

Tinguhaan ta gid nga pagka 9 to 10 a.m., limpyo na ang syudad sang Iloilo,” Ravena stressed.

Last year, the first “wave” of trash the GSO gathered post-Dinagyang weighed 40 to 50 tons.

These trash – most biodegradable – fit in 25 trucks, Ravena said./PN
