ILOILO City A huge number of foreign and local tourists and “balikbayans” are expected to flock the city of Iloilo this month of January to witness the celebration of the 2019 Iloilo Dinagyang and Kasadyahan, which will highlight on Jan. 26 (Kasadyahan) and 27 (Dinagyang) this year.

Thus, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo City District Engineering Office ensures that roads within the city are in good condition and accessible to motorists.

District engineer Rodney Gustilo said city roads are prepared for the weeklong celebration of the Dinagyang Festival, despite rehabilitation works in some road sections.

“We have been deploying our crew to undertake various maintenance activities such as repainting of road lane markings and gutter, installation of signage and de-clogging of drainage systems, in time for the celebration.” Gustilo said.

“Maintenance of our city roads are regularly undertaken by our Office to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, hence, we appeal for public’s understanding that our roads may be congested considering the volume of traffic and pedestrians to flock the city during the festival,” he added.

Gustilo also said that projects outside the city proper area that are scheduled for implementation or currently being implemented would not be suspended.

“We have no ongoing projects within the city proper area that need to be suspended to pave way for the festival while projects implemented outside the city proper will go on since they will not be directly affected by the celebration,” Gustilo stressed./PN
