MANILA – San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas continued its winning ways in the 2019 ASEAN Basketball League after a 100-81 win over Macau’s Zhuhai Wolf Warriors on Tuesday night at the Doumen Gymnasium in China.
Renaldo Balkman led the way with 34 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while fellow Puerto Rican import Peter John Ramos added 25 markers for the Alab, which improved to 11-2 win-loss slate.
Lorenzo Domingo and Joshua Urbiztondo, meanwhile, combined for 21 markers for the defending champions, which played for the third straight time without injured Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
Holding to a slim 26-23 lead at the end of first quarter, the Alab slowly created distance from the Warriors in the second quarter with Balkman pouring in 10 markers for a 52-41 halftime lead.
The Warriors threatened to within 52-56 early in the third period but the Philippine squad countered with an 11-5 scoring blast capped by a dunk by Brandon Rosser for a 67-57 advantage.
With the home team struggling with their offense, Alab Pilipinas leaned on inside hits by Balkman and Ramos to reach its biggest lead of the game at 85-64 on a layup by Domingo.
Chen Cai led the way with 28 points and 3 rebounds, while import Mike Taylor followed up with 18 markers, 4 boards, and 4 assists for the Warriors, which dropped to 1-15 slate./PN
