COLEGIO de la Purisima Concepcion came up with clutch hits to score an 89-82 win over the Saint Mary’s Academy of Capiz in the knockout semifinals of the National Basketball Training Center-Capiz leg on Wednesday at Dayao Gym in Roxas City, Capiz.
Christian Fulge led the way with 19 points, while John Anthony Fuentes and Carl Justin Hechanova chipped in 14 and 12 markers, respectively, for the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion.
Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion got their shooting going early on to lead by as much as 15 points but the Saint Mary’s Academy did not easily gave up as it cut the deficit to 80-81.
However, that proved to be the last stand of the Saint Mary’s Academy as the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion countered with an 8-2 scoring run in a span of a minute.
Sydrick Babela finished with 29 points, while Erl Mariano Lim and Jayther Alagon contributed 20 and 11 markers, respectively, for the losing Saint Mary’s Academy.
Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion will next face the Hercor College Junior Jaguars in the best-of-three finals starting this afternoon at Dayao Gym. Junior Jaguars entered the finals with a 98-65 win over Filamer Christian University on Monday.
Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion and Hercor College were also both qualified to the regionals, where they will fight with the qualifiers from Iloilo, Antique and Guimaras for a slot in the National Finals in Manila./PN
