MANILA – Bobby Ray Parks Jr. achieved a personal milestone as San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas scored a 111-87 victory over Saigon Heat in the 2018-2019 ASEAN Basketball League on Sunday night at the Lapu Lapu Sports Complex in Cebu.
Parks, the reigning two-time reigning ABL Local MVP, became the newest member of ABL’s 1000 points club after tallying 23 points, seven assists and two rebounds for the Alab.
Parks, who missed the Alab’s last three matches due to a groin injury, formalized his entry as the 16th player to join the league’s prestigious club with a three-pointer at the 3:57 left in the opening frame.
Aside from the second overall pick in the 2018 PBA Draft, also making their presence felt were Peter John Ramos and Renaldo Balkman, who had 30 and 29 points, respectively, for Alab (12-2).
The Philippine-based squad immediately pounded on their opponent in the opening frame with Ramos, Balkman and Parks conspiring on offense to build a 21 point edge in the opening half.
The Heat mounted a huge fight back in the second half and was able to come to as close as eight but the trio of Ramos, Balkman and Parks regained their form to push the lead to 108-84.
Chris Dierker finished with 20 points, while Murphy Burnatowski added 19 markers for the Saigon Heat, which suffered its third consecutive defeat to slid down to 10-7 win-loss card./PN
