ILONGGO boxer Juanito Paredes survived a huge challenge from veteran Jeson Autida to score a unanimous decision victory on Tuesday night at the Candelaria Cockpit in Candelaria, Quezon.
It was the second victory in three months for the Dumangas, Iloilo native, who captured the Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight belt against Lloyd Jardeliza last December.
Paredes showed his dominance early as he pounded Autida with his combination hits but the latter also had his moments when he countered with straights but was not enough to hurt the Ilonggo boxer.
After the match, all three judges who scored the bout were in unison in giving Paredes a 98-96, 98-96, 98-96 victory.
“Masaya at nanalo po ako uli kahit medyo malapit ito dun sa last fight ko,” Paredes told Panay News after the match. “Alam kong matibay din itong nakalaban ko kaya pinaghandaan ko talaga ito.”
With the victory, the 26-year-old Paredes improved his boxing slate to 8-5-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including three stoppage wins, while Autida’s slate dropped to 11-11-0, with five stoppage wins.
In other results, Francis Gonzales settled for a draw with Manny Mamacquiao while Veejay Velasco tallied his second straight wins in as many games after a technical knockout victory over Alex Isidro./PN
